Zakir Hossain, the son of an ancient traditional business family of Bangladesh, is one of the young entrepreneurs of this decade. He is the Managing Director of Hossain Group, one of the leading industrial empires in the country. His father’s name is Ali Hossain and mother Feroza Akhter Hossain. Entrepreneur Ali Hossain is the founder and current chairman of the group. He founded the country’s first Steel Mill M/s Tejgaon Re-Rolling Mills Ltd. He was the President of Bangladesh Steel Mills Association for a long time. He was also the President of Dhaka Chamber and commerce.
Self-confident entrepreneur Zakir Hossain has business instinct flowing through his blood. His grandfather Abdus Sattar was involved in business since the British rule. Sattar Company founded by him supplied hats for the British royals. During the Pakistan period, Sattar established Sattar & Brother Construction Firm. He is among the 26 families involved in the development of Dhaka as a capital city. Mr. Sattar was involved in the construction of many infrastructure including Tejgaon International Airport, Dhaka Wasa Bhaban, a few halls of Dhaka University, Green Super Market and Mohakhali Super Market.
Zakir Hossain, the third generation of this family, was a genius from his childhood. He completed O-Level from Maple Leaf International School. For higher studies he left for USA and did Masters from Northeastern University Boston with a degree in Finance and Investment banking. After completing his higher education in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, he became the Director of Finance and Management at North Atlantic Corporation USA. He also worked as an Analyst for AG Edwards an investment firm in Boston. After earning the master’s degree from Boston, he returned to the country and became the Managing Director of his ancestral business “Hossain Group”.
Under his able leadership, the Hossain Group has expanded. He built Cold Storages and Real Estate. A ‘Satellite Town’ is being constructed on 40 bigha’s land next to the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway with the initiative of his established Empire Builders Ltd.
Their group is making Bangla Cars for the first time through joint venture with China/Japan and Indonesia. Bangla cars will be manufacturing SUVs, trucks, small cars, bus, pickup trucks, container trucks and electric cars. Under the management of Hossain Group’s efficient and enterprising Managing Director Zakir Hossain, daily necessities including rice and spices are being produced in the Tulip Food Processing Industry which is being exported to 3 countries from 2018. Zidane Chemical Industries, a sister concern of Mysol Chemical Company Ltd, is producing 40 SKU type chemicals. H. Hotel is a boutique hotel located in the heart of Gulshan-2 with 96 modern rooms. Their Tejgaon Intelligent Cold Storage is located in Tejgaon to serve Karwan Bazar. V Water Enterprise provides pure drinking water. Also Jamuna Steels Ltd, Shabnam Cold Storage, Zahura Textile Mills Ltd, Jamuna Shipping Lines Ltd, Faisal Steel & Re-Roling Mills Ltd, and Advance Manpower Ltd are a few concerns of this congolomerate.
Zakir Hossain is also involved in the activities of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also associated with the Wholesale Club in Jamuna Future Park. He is playing a leading role in establishing young leadership in DCCI.
At the moment of the terrible pandemic of Covid-19, he has taken various initiatives to create awareness among the common people. He has given important and effective advices to the people in this regard in several awareness reports.
This socially conscious young entrepreneur is also involved with the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectorial Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). It is a trade and economic organization between Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal. This organization is one of the most important contributors to the economy of Bangladesh. It will work to develop mutual relations, trade relations and common interests, especially in the areas of Commerce Investment, Technology, Tourism, Human Resource Development, Agriculture, Fisheries, Transport and Communication, Textiles and Leather etc.
Zakir Hossain, a young businessman of Bangladesh, continues to make significant contributions to the country’s economy. According to him, Bangladesh is a country of great potential. Sumaiya Hossain Islam, wife of Zakir Hossain, is the director of Jamuna Group. The couple is blessed with two sons Zidane Mikael Hossain and Zesselyn Hurain Hossain, who are students by profession. He is the son-in-law of the late Nurul Islam Babul, founder of the well-known industrial group Jamuna Group, and former Member of Parliament Salma Islam. He is also the Honorary Director of Jamuna Group.
