Film actor Ahmed Sharif has received a grant of Tk 3.5 million from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for treatment of himself and his ailing wife.
Sharif, former president of Chalachchitra Shilpi Samity or Film Artists Association, received a cheque from the prime minister at her office on Thursday.
He, on his own behalf and the family, expressed his gratitude to Hasina for the financial assistance.
He debuted by performing in the film ‘Arunodoyer Agnisakkhi’ directed by Subhash Dutta. Although he played the protagonist in the film, he later emerged as one of the foremost antagonists in Bangladeshi movies.
Sharif had been involved with the politics of BNP. He also served as president of the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha or JaSaS, the party’s cultural front.
